Ann Handley, Chief Content Officer at MarketingProfs, joins the podcast after an international trip and a birthday to discuss her feelings on the current state of digital marketing, why the best marketing shouldn’t actually feel like marketing, and why companies are beginning to put more money into content.
Ann speaks and writes a lot about innovative and interesting pieces of content, both on and offline, on her personal website, AnnHandley.com. She believes that the best content is useful, inspirational, and empathetic.
Although Carl Sciortino didn’t win the primaries, this piece of content won him attention, money, and awareness toward his campaign, and these wins prove that the video was a success.
Another unique (and useful) content example is from Lowe’s Home Improvement who is leveraging the popular 6-second video platform Vine to create helpful videos for the DIYers (like DJ). Their “Fix in Six” Vine video series teaches you creative ways to fix common problems around your house, like hanging picture frames, removing a stripped screw, and more. The below 6-second video helped DJ hang up a shelf in his daughter's room!
Ann gave a shout out to the MarketingProfs B2B Forum which happened last month in Boston, and DJ mentioned a few crazy requests that he got from Facebook.
